Biographical / Historical
The original section of the Brazilian Court Hotel was built in 1925 by Rosario Candela. A south courtyard was added in 1936 and a pool and patio were added in 1979. With large double hung sash windows, balconies, and a hipped roof, the building is an amazing example of the Mediterranean Revival Style.
While the hotel experienced major success in the 1920s, it was hit by the Great Depression and sold at a foreclosure auction in 1932 to the Mulford Realty Company. Under their leadership, the hotel grew and additions were added by architects Treanor and Fatio. The hotel closed its doors again from 1984-1986 for interior renovations. The Brazilian Court Hotel was landmarked by the Town of Palm Beach on January 18, 1990.
