South Florida Architecture Collection
Scope and Contents
The South Florida Architecture Collection contains architectural drawings, blueprints, renderings, and copies of architectural materials for residential and commercial buildings spanning 1917-2009. The properties are mainly based in Palm Beach, Florida, however some drawings depict structures in other areas of the South Florida region, including North Palm Beach and Tampa. A small portion of drawings are for buildings in New York, however there is significant overlap between work done by architects in New York and in South Florida. Architects in the collection were primarily based in Palm Beach and New York. While the provenance of the material is unknown, there is the potential that the collection contains drawings collected by an architect for research purposes. Architects within the collection include Treanor & Fatio, E.B. Walton, Emily Obst with Smiths & Obst, Addison Mizner, and Tom Shoumate, the son of Belford Shoumate. Materials were found in the repository with this organization, so the most recently known original order has been maintained. The drawings within the collection are arranged in alphabetical order by architect last name.
